Just a couple of reminders....
Band lock in forms and money are due tomorrow. We still need chaperones and drivers for the road rally. Drivers we need from around 6:15pm-8:30pm. Charperones we need all night, part of night, etc.
Little Caesar pizza fundraiser order forms were made available today. All profits go to the kids individual band accounts. This isn't mandatory but is a great way to raise money for marching band fees or cover your dry cleaning fee for concert band. (If you haven't paid this for this year still, I need that ASAP) We did not pass them out to everyone individually but the forms are in the band room and the students. If you would like your student to get one, please remind them. (Or let me know and I will hand them one!) Forms and money are due May 27 and pizza pick up is Wed, June 8 from 5-6:30pm.
All the band scholarships applications are out. These are given out by the boosters at the banquet. Five $100 scholarships for underclassmen to use for something musical. (lessons, blue lake, other band camp, etc) and two $500 scholarships for seniors to use for college. All forms are in the band room and due May 24.
May 16 Dress rehearsal
May 17 Spring Concert
May 26 Jazz in park (jazz band and choir)
May 30 Memorial Day Parade (schedule attached)
June 6 Band Banquet (@ SLHS)
June 9 Graduation Rehearsal
June 11 Graduation (schedule coming soon)
If you have any questions, let me know.

Just a couple of things before the break.
Remider that there is a Band schedule on the Charms website if you need. www.charmsmusic.com Don't forget that we are hosting the Band Festival this year on Saturday, March 19th. We need many parent volunteers to run this event.
If you haven't had a chance to help out this year, now is your chance.
A sign up sheet has been added to google for everyone to view. The direction to get to it are below. You need to sign up first. (See below)
After that, the link is:
When you go there you will see spaces with yellow and green spots.
The yellow are for students and the green for parents. Please only fill in those spaces. You will see that there are 3 different time slots. They are marked at the top as Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Students or both.
These are the times that the kids can work. Don't forget that in addition to running the event, our kids are also performing in it. So the top of the sheets says when they can work to avoid the time that they will need to be performing. If you have any questions, just let me know. Again we need a lot of help, so please check out the google sheet and sign up.
Everyone have a great break!!
SLHS Band Coordinator
Directions for google spreadsheet:
Above is the link to the volunteer sign-up. It is a google document. Please create a google name and password to view the documents. (It doesn t cost you anything to do this.) We will be using more documents like this throughout the year, so please take the time to create your google account for this and future documents.
This document updates in real time so once you enter your name, it will be there for all to see. This will make it easier to track our needs.
Everyone can see how many volunteers we still need anytime they sign in.
We are not asking you to do everything, but we are asking everyone to do something. It takes many volunteers to run the band program and we appreciate everyone s help.

Abbey Park has an annual Festival of Trees. Different businesses/organizations can decorate a tree for Christmas here at Abbey Park. The decorators designate the charity of their choice for that particular tree. A couple of band parents, Amy Keown and Judy Peiper have decorated a tree for the band and now we need people to vote.
Just stop in the office at Abbey Park, by a ticket or several tickets for $1 apiece and then place the tickets in the box by our tree. Our tree is in the main dining room. Any money raised in our box goes to the band. The tree is all blue and gold with music ornaments. Voting continues until their holiday party on 12/12. You can stop in anytime during office hours and do this. The Office Hours: Sun 12-5, Mon-Thurs 9-6, Fri 9-5, Sat 10-5. Tell all your family and friends to stop by and vote for our tree.

The jazz band is hosting Supper with Santa on Tues, Dec 14th at St. Joseph in town.
Bring your family and friends
and enjoy dinner and music by the jazz band. The proceeds are split
between Active Faith and the band program. In order to keep our costs down, we are asking for donations from the band families. We could use spaghetti noodles, Italian or Ranch dressing, and bags of candy individually wrapped. You can send them in with your student or drop them off in the box at the concert next week. Thank you in advance for your help.
We also need volunteers to help with food, games and crafts.
We need students and adults. (Students can use this towards their varsity letter.) There is a sign up sheet for students in the band room. If adults are interested, please let me know when you are available. It is a fun evening, so everyone should come out and support the band program.

Well we made it to States!! Now there is all kinds of new information.
Ford Field as well as maps and directions are on the event page. I know it is a lot but please read it all. There is a list of items that you may NOT bring to Ford Field, so please don't miss that. Most important...don't forget to bring Cash. That is all the ticket windows will accept.
A few other important things:
FOR THOSE NEW TO MARCHING THIS YEAR: They will be selling round MCBA Patches at Ford Field. You do NOT need to purchase these. The band will be providing them as well as the finalist rockers to go around it.
Please try to get your student to eat something before they leave on Saturday morning. We will have a snack when the band is done performing but breakfast before they leave would be good too. It would be a good idea to send your student with some money to get something from the concessions as well. Remember that it is Ford Field so they are not always cheap. They should also bring money to buy a state finalist t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, or sweatshirt if they would like one. If you are attending then it is easier for you to do that.
The band's schedule is still be finalized but will be sent shortly. The band will probably only be staying through our flight. (This is a change from the last meeting) However if you would like to stay later with your student to see flight 1, you are welcome to do that. Attached is the release form that you should fill out if you are planning for your student to not return on the bus with the band.
The food moms have planned an end of the season party for Saturday night. It is a family party, so everyone is welcome. It is a carry-in with the main dish provided by the band. The invitation and RSVP is attached. For anyone who would like to see Flight 1 bands, you are welcome to come after that. They assure me the party will still be going on. (Food moms throw good parties, so I assume they are right.)
The list of people that volunteered for props/equipment should be done tomorrow. I will put it on thehttps://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ApaIMAP9H_badHpsM0dVNzBnbTlPWm5LTzlWQ2pQSVE&hl=en&authkey=CI_74akI" target="_blank"> google spreadsheet so everyone knows who will be helping. You will get more info on that later this week.
I think that is all for now. Watch for other information coming this week.
If you have any questions, please ask.

Hope everyone got some rest and enjoyed our weekend off because now we don't stop until Ford Field! For those of you that are new, you can follow our progress at www.themcba.org It will give you the rules, show scores and cummulative scores for Ford Field. The point spread is very small this year. If you look at it and have any questions, let me know.
The schedule for Saturday is here. (If your student has a conflict with the Catholic Church on that morning, please let me know) I also have tickets for the competition. They are $6.00. You can get them at practice this week.
Below is an email from the uniform moms. Please read.
We are going to try again tonight with the props and helmets during the run through. Come at 8:40 and take a look.

Dear Parents/Guardians, Thank you to those who have already sent in their candy donations. They are much appreciated! If you haven't had a chance to drop off your donation yet, please do so as soon as possible. We've only received a few bags so far and will need lots more to give the kids a nice little treat. You can drop it off before, during or after practice and place it in the green bin under the table outside of Mr. Kort's office. Remember, it's a "surprise" for the kids, so please don't send it in with your child. Thanks for your support! Susan Cummings Uniform Mom

We are thinking positively and making plans to be at Ford Field.
Attached are the release forms that everyone (Student band members, adults, pit helpers, prop helpers, and staff) need to fill out for Ford Field. THE FORMS ARE A LITTLE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR, SO PLEASE READ THE WHOLE EMAIL. There is one form for the students (Waiver of Liability) and a different one for the adults (Agreement and release of all Claims). Basically they are release forms for anyone that will be on the field that day for any reason. They need to be returned ASAP but no later than practice Monday Oct 11. I would prefer that everyone turn them in by Erwin's though.
I need a Waiver of Liability for every student in the program or they won't be allowed to perform that day.
I also need the Agreement and release of all claims from any adult that will be helping out that day. If you have helped with the pit, plan to in the future, or are planning to help move props, please fill one out. It is better for us to have too many releases and not use everyone than not to turn in enough to cover all the jobs that day. We can NOT turn in additional forms later. For those of you who don't
know, we are timed during the unloading of our truck, as well as getting everything on and off the field. If we don't have enough help and we take too long, the kids received a deduction on their score. We don't want that after all their hard work.
The attachment is big but I can't alter it, so here are the pages that you need.....
The student form is page 4 and the adult form is page 5. There are examples on pages 2 and 3 if you want to look at them. Don't mail the forms like it says on page 1, just fill them out and return them to me.
If you don't have a witness available, please fill out your part and return it. We will take care of the witness. If you need a printed copy, just let me know.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
HERE WE COME STATES!

The Band has an ongoing Bingo fundraiser that is run weekly at the VFW Hall. We are looking for parents that are interested in helping, and we are in the process of developing a monthly schedule. If you have any interest in helping please contact me, Kathy Hutchinson at [email protected].
It is a lot of fun, and it is a great way for the band to be active in our community. Also for every 4 hours that an adult works, $10 goes into your student's account. I am also looking for people that would be willing to donate a food item for the weekly Bingo. --From Kathy Hutchinson

At the end of practice on Mon and Wed the kids do a run through of the show so far. They like to have an audience, so feel free to join us at 8:45. If you do, please don't park in the bus loop. There is a small parking lot near the band semi trailer. Please park there. Last week the city police drove through and ticketed everyone that was parked in the loop.
